Facts About Cat Videos Why Are They So Funny
Cats have strange habits, can get ill, fight with other cats and are afraid of a lot of things. Cats can be a lot of things, but above all, cats are funny.
Funny Cat Habits
Cats do a lot of funny things in our house. Whether they walk sideways with a high raised back and a fluffed up tail or falling off the sofa while fighting with their favourite toy. We often have to laugh a lot about their cat habits.
We think a lot of fun stuff is happening during playtime or at cat crazy time, which usually starts somewhere after dinnertime in the evening. But perhaps they are not really trying to be funny, but are rather a bit silly.
Millions of videos are ending up on YouTube and more are added every day by a lot of people that are so lucky to have the video camera recording on the right moment and time to capture the most funniest movements of cats.
Cats do a lot of funny and silly things in a day. We got seven cats here and do see our share of funny stuff. For example when our two kittens play fight together on the edge of our bed – you can see that it is going to go wrong at some point in time. A moment later they both fall down on the ground. The bed is luckily not so high, so they don't hurt themselves, but it is really funny to see two kittens suddenly disappearing out of sight.
Other funny moments happen with our cat Tiger who apparently is afraid of underwear or a left-behind sock. You see him slowly approaching the piece of clothing in question and when he gets too near, he suddenly jumps backwards in panic. What is so scary about the sock? Or the underwear?
Are Cats Funny Or Do They Make Silly Mistakes?
Are cats really trying to be funny? This is a good question. I think cats are mostly doing silly things and end up making silly mistakes. Cats are extremely curious and hence they end up in funny situations.
For example do cats make a lot of wrong judgments on how far a table, cupboard, window sill or chair really is. They jump and just about miss their landing place, plunging down to the ground.
Cats also tend to sleep on places and end up so relaxed that they suddenly fall off their sleeping position. If it happens to be a small place, they will fall down to the ground.
They also end up seeing themselves in the mirror the first time around and think there is another enemy cat (looking exactly like him) on the other side. Instinct tells them to be territorial and hence they are curious what the other cat is doing here.

Crazy Cat Moments
A lot of cats have their own crazy cat moment though. I see it with both our adult cats and kittens from time to time that they get completely weird in their head. They look funny at you with one ear backwards and one forwards and a funny eye expression. The next moment they are jumping or running through the room and playing with a piece of paper or a ball of dust. They can be running after it as if it was a ball or make rabbit jumps in a circle around it.
They could be moon walking over the slippery wooden floors or scratch the scratching pole frantically. The next moment they run through your house, up the stairs, down the stairs, up the stairs and down again.
Some more moments after they are completely calm and relaxed and resting somewhere. Most important of all, they seem to be as if nothing ever happened and we had just only imagined what happened only moments earlier.
Not Funny For The Cat
Although often looking funny, not all videos on YouTube are actually funny moments. Cats might look funny when they are afraid and try to punch you in a punch fight, but are actually in the worst possible position ever and are just trying to get away from a situation.
In other situations I see cats trying to get away from the running water in the bathroom. Most cats are afraid of water and therefore their fight and flight instinct gets activated. They enter the highest level of panic. A lot of (to us) funny situations occur, such as slipping cats trying to get away on slippery floors or trying to get away from the owner. Reality is that they are seriously afraid and in a bad situation they are trying to get out of.
So rather than laugh out loud, I tend to cringe when I see a cat in serious danger or feeling anxious about the situations that people film for being "funny". I feel sorry for the cat in fear, the cat fighting for its life or the ill cat attacking its own tail or paws while kicking himself.
Have Lots Of Fun… But…
So have lots of fun watching YouTube videos like the one below or watching your own cats being silly, but do keep in mind that not all the situations are particularly fun. Be aware that in some cases there might be other things at hand, such as illness, frustrations and aggression that need to be treated differently.
